Hello! I’m April Hartsook Corbett and I’m thrilled to be the Interim Executive Director of Virginia Children’s Theatre.

I’ve worked closely with VCT for the past 10 years in many capacities. I know this organization well and hold it very near and dear to my heart. My goal as Interim Executive Director is to meet the needs of ALL youth that we serve, where they are now. Theatre is a great tool to foster connection, spark conversation and create growth.

That stillness, immediately before a show begins, has always been my favorite moment in theatre. It feels breathless, suspended in time and space for just a moment. And then the actors enter the stage and WHOOSH - the whole audience reacts. The most amazing reaction of all is that of a child. Look around next time that you are at a show with kids in the audience; they light up when the show starts. There is a sparkle in a child’s eye as they watch a show and come alive with imagination. That is the most amazing moment to witness. 

That is my why.
This is at the heart and the center of all that I do in children’s theatre. That little kid. That spark. 

Come with us as we go on this journey of wonder together. To ignite that spark and share it with others. The staff and teaching artists at VCT are here to support the growth of our youth and create a safe, nurturing space where everyone is seen and heard.
